Stray Dog Barbershop

For Cambridge clients, worth the drive

A barbershop Cambridge clients drive up the 401 for.

Cambridge is the outer edge of our realistic service area. The drive from Galt or Preston is 20 to 25 minutes, longer at peak. We're not the closest barbershop to Cambridge. We are the named-barber, hair-type-range, scissor-focused option that some Cambridge clients keep coming back to anyway.

About this area

Where we are, what it means for Cambridge clients.

Cambridge has its own barbershop scene: Jon's Barbershop in Preston, Preston Barbershop on King Street East, and a handful of Hespeler Road shops. We are not trying to pull volume away from any of them. The Cambridge clients who book at Stray Dog typically book for a specific service: Liam's senior-barber scissor work, the Beard Trim (lvl 2) with hot-towel finish, or a Faded Haircut with scissor work on top that requires a longer sitting than a quick clipper-focused shop runs.

The drive is 20 to 25 minutes off-peak from Galt downtown via Highway 401 to Highway 8 to King Street North. From Preston (Hespeler Road corridor), the same route is 18 to 22 minutes. Cambridge Centre area: 25 to 30 minutes via Highway 24 to Highway 401. Toyota Cambridge plant clients usually combine the trip with a Conestoga Mall stop or an Uptown Waterloo dinner.

Paid and free parking around the shop is reliable: King Street North metered until 6 pm Monday to Saturday, free Sundays, and the Willis Way municipal lot is a 3-minute walk with weekend availability. The drive home via the 401 is straightforward.

For a Cambridge first-visit, we'd recommend booking the Precision Scissor Cut (45 min) at $35.40 or the Beard Trim (lvl 2) at $30.97 with Liam: those are the two services that justify the round trip from Cambridge. Standard fades are available, but if a standard fade is what you're after, the Cambridge-side options are closer to home and just as good.

From Cambridge

Three location-specific questions.

The questions specific to clients booking from Cambridge. Answered directly.

  • For a $25 standard fade, no. For Liam's Precision Scissor Cut, the senior-barber Beard Trim with hot-towel finish, or any work that needs a longer chair time than a Cambridge-side walk-in shop typically runs, yes. The honest framing: we're a destination booking for Cambridge, not a corridor option.

  • Mid-morning weekday (10 AM to 11:30 AM) and Saturday or Sunday morning windows are the cleanest. Friday afternoon and weekday peak (4 PM to 6:30 PM) on the 401 will add 15 to 20 minutes each way.

  • Most Cambridge regulars do. Tuesday Night Market (June through October), the patios on King Street, and the Conestoga Mall stop on the drive home are the common pairings.
