Stray Dog Barbershop

King Street North

A barbershop in Uptown Waterloo, on the King Street stretch.

Uptown Waterloo is the King Street North corridor between University Avenue and Erb Street. We are on it. 43 King Street North, two blocks up from Waterloo Town Square, a short walk from the ION Waterloo Public Square stop, and on the same block as the patios that fill up first when the weather turns.

About this area

Where we are, what it means for Uptown clients.

If you live, work, or pass through Uptown Waterloo, this is a 10-minute walk from anywhere on the strip. The shop is on the east side of King between Bridgeport and William, in the row of mid-rise buildings that runs north from Waterloo Public Square. Foot traffic on this block is high through the lunch hour and through the post-work window, and Tuesday Night Market season fills the sidewalk directly out front.

Uptown Waterloo BIA covers the King Street corridor from Erb to Central. Most of our regulars live within a five-block radius: the condos along King, Erb, and Caroline; the brick walk-ups east toward Allen; the tech-firm professionals at OpenText, BlackBerry QNX, and the RBC office on King. We see the same people every four to eight weeks. Most rebook from the chair before they leave the shop.

The King Street stretch is the densest barbershop corridor in Waterloo Region. Headline Barber Shop is a block north at 91 King, G and T is across at 75 King South, Oasis Joe's is further down at 104 King South. We are not going to pretend they don't exist. What sets us apart on this corridor is the named-barber model on Squire, the range across hair types, and the Sunday availability that most of the corridor doesn't carry.

Open seven days a week, 10 AM to 7 PM. Walk-in friendly when a chair is open. Book any of the three barbers (Liam, Ayaan, Bavy) directly through Squire. The first visit gets a real consultation. Every visit after that gets the same hands on the same head.

From Uptown

Three location-specific questions.

The questions specific to clients booking from Uptown Waterloo. Answered directly.

  • Street parking on King Street North directly outside the shop (metered, free Sundays and after 6 pm). Municipal lot off Willis Way is a 3-minute walk and usually has open spaces on weekends. The Bauer Lofts underground lot is paid public parking with elevator access to the King Street level.

  • Yes. Waterloo Public Square is a 3-minute walk straight up King Street North. Waterloo Park is a 10-minute walk west along Erb. Both are flat, well-lit, and direct.

  • Tuesday through Thursday, 10 AM to 1 PM, is the calmest window in the shop. If you want a less crowded walk-in chance, that's the slot. Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings are full almost every week.
